Dhaka-- (UNB)– Pakistan reached the semifinal of the Grameen Phone ICC/ACC Under-17 Asia Cup Cricket tournament with all-win record beating lowly Singapore by nine–wicket at the BKSP ground yesterday.


After the day’s outcome, defending champions Sri Lanka and runners-up Pakistan recorded their third consecutive wins to qualify for the semis with one match in hand against India and Bangladesh respectively, billed for Tuesday (Feb 20).


Earlier, Pakistan earned a 152-run win over new-face Kuwait and a narrow 23-run victory over upcoming Nepal in the Group-A matches while Sri Lanka outplayed Oman by 10-wicket and UAE by huge 234 runs in the Group B affairs.


Opted to bat first in the day’s match, Singapore were bundled out for paltry 116 runs in 44.4 overs with two down Zeeshan Zaidi making team highest 22 runs off 50 balls featuring two fours and a sixer.


Opener Anand Santhanan (18) and number seven bat Ahmed Azizul (10) were the two other Singapore batsmen reaching the double figure.


Azam Hussain and Agha Tahir of Pakistan claimed two wickets each conceding 16 and 18 runs respectively while skipper Salman Butt, Wahad Riaz and M Altaf took one wicket apiece.


Replying to a poor total, the Pakistani boys faced no trouble to reach their target scoring 119 runs for one in only 11.5 overs with opener-cum-captain Salman Butt quick-firing unbeaten 57 runs off just 35 balls with 13 fours.


Another opener Khalid Latif made a polished 45-run in 35 deliveries with eight hits to the fence before he was clean bowled by Muruthi while one down Khashif Ezaj remained not out with 4 runs playing just two balls.


In the day’s other match, An all round performance by Manik helped the Himalayan Kingdom Nepal to taste the first victory in their third match beating Kuwait by five-wicket at the BKSP ground one.


Sent into bat first, the gulf state Kuwait were all out for 127 runs in 41.2 overs with opener Arnab Dutta scoring 31 runs off 46 balls including three fours and a sixer.


In reply, the Nepalese team reached their target making 131 for 5 in 36.1 overs.


Opening the team’s batting, Manik scored match highest 43 runs off 82 balls hitting four fours. Earlier, he captured two wickets conceding only two runs in 4 overs with a maiden.
